In Grayhawk's Holiday Season, The Registration Deadline Is The Date To Watch

October 29, 2026

Two of the Grayhawk Community Association's holiday-season events were full before November started. Bunco Night and the Holiday Centerpiece Making Class each showed 20 of 20 spots taken in late October, and the centerpiece class had already gone to a waitlist. Bunco costs $5 and the centerpiece class costs $10. Both had seats capped at 20 and registration windows that opened weeks ahead.

The same pattern shows up across the November and December calendar. The indoor GCA events list limited space and close registration days before the event. The two Greenbelt events at 78th Place and 78th Way can take far more people. If you want to go to the smaller events, the deadline is the date to mark down.

The Talon Room Sets The Ceiling

Several of the season's events are held in the Talon Room, a GCA space the association rents out for meetings and social events. The GCA lists its maximum capacity at 75 and about 48 for a seated dinner, with tables, chairs, kitchen access and audiovisual equipment. Set that against a community of Grayhawk's size and the math is short. A crafting class with greenery, candles and floral supplies at every seat needs far less than 75 people to fill the room, and the centerpiece class capped out at 20.

Registration also opens early. Most of the holiday sessions opened at 8 a.m. on August 24, 2026, more than two months before the first event. The centerpiece class opened later, on September 16, and was still full weeks ahead of its November 13 registration close. With a room that size and registration opening that early, a 20-seat class can fill long before its deadline.

What Has Already Filled

As of this week, the GCA listings show two events with a waitlist only:

  • Bunco Night, Thursday, November 5, 6 to 8 p.m. The GCA office building at 7940 E. Thompson Peak Pkwy. The session is called "Bunco, Bites and Big Wins." It's potluck style: everyone brings a dish and their own drink, and each player's $5 goes into a cash prize pot. Registration and payment closed November 3, and all 20 seats were taken.
  • Holiday Centerpiece Making Class, Tuesday, November 17, 5:30 to 7 p.m. The Talon Room. Ardan Construction sponsors the class, and the listing was at 20 of 20 with a waitlist open.

The waitlist link is on each GCA activity page. With caps this small, one cancellation moves you a long way up the list.

The Greenbelt Doesn't Run Out Of Room

The events that stay open are mostly outside. Two November events use the Greenbelt at 78th Place and 78th Way, and one starts at the GCA office and moves out onto Hayden Road.

Adopt-A-Road Clean Up, Saturday, November 7, 8 to 10 a.m. Volunteers meet at the GCA office at 7940 E. Thompson Peak Pkwy. and then clean along Hayden Road. Two hours on a cool November morning, and it's the only event on the calendar where the community's work is visible from a car afterward.

Concert in the Park, Friday, November 13, 5 to 7 p.m. The Greenbelt, $3 per person. The GCA invites people to bring a picnic. The listing doesn't name a performer and doesn't say food or drinks are included, so pack what you want to eat. At 5 p.m. in mid-November the light is already low, so a blanket and a layer will help by the second hour.

Chamber of Commerce Home and Health Show at Grayhawk, Saturday, November 21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Back on the Greenbelt, and free. The GCA describes booths from local businesses, home-improvement and wellness resources, live music and giveaways. It runs four hours on a Saturday morning, so it's the easiest event on the calendar to drop into without planning.

These three are a good fit for spontaneous plans or for bringing out-of-town guests who arrive with short notice. The indoor events are where you need to plan.

The Events Still Open, And When They Close

The rest of the season asks for registration ahead of time, and one event has a step that has to happen at the GCA office before the night itself.

Fire Safety Secrets Lunch and Learn, Thursday, November 19, 11 a.m. to noon. 7940 E. Thompson Peak Pkwy., Suite 102. It's free, and registration is required.

Jingle and Mingle, Thursday, December 3, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The GCA's grown-up holiday night out is at Jalapeno Inferno, 7605 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd. For $40 per person you get a buffet dinner, entertainment, dancing and one drink ticket, and holiday attire is encouraged. The listing says space is limited and registration closes Tuesday, December 1.

Santa Party, Tuesday, December 8, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fairway House at Grayhawk Golf Club, 8362 E. Thompson Peak Pkwy. This is a pajama party with crafts, gifts and treats. Kids get breakfast for dinner, adults get appetizers and a cash bar, and there's a hot chocolate station. Registration costs $30 for adults and $20 for kids if received by December 4, and the GCA warns the event may sell out.

The Santa Party has an extra step that's easy to miss. To hold your child's spot, parents drop off a wrapped gift at the GCA office by Friday, December 4, labeled with the child's first name, last name and age, and Santa hands it out at the party. So registering online isn't enough. Someone also has to get a wrapped, labeled package to the office on a weekday before that Friday.

Hanukkah Party, Thursday, December 10, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Talon Room. The GCA lists a menorah lighting, a light catered meal, sweets and children's activities. Admission is $10 per adult and $5 for children age 3 and up. This is the second holiday event in the room where the centerpiece class filled at 20, so registering early is the safer move.
